The Magical World Of Dating

So, as you all may know I enjoy going on dates. After having been on numerous dates over the past half year I must say there is nothing more magical than a first date. Because of my location, I find myself matching with a lot of people who live in the city or one of the five boroughs. There’s nothing that’s more akin to rubbing a lamp than sitting in traffic on I-95 through the George Washington Bridge to try and make my date at 7 o’clock. Spoiler alert I’m usually the “I’m running late” guy. Another cool part about all these first dates is the magic of "poofing" to different destinations through the other person. Wouldn’t you believe living near the city attracts a ton of transplants? There was Jourdan from Arizona, Alex from San Fran, and even Megan from Michigan but went to school in Arizona. All three had recently moved over at the time of our dates and I became the tour guide even though I’m not from the city my close proximity made me a de facto resident in their eyes. Heck on my first date with Alex, we went to a jazz club in Brooklyn, and we met a guy who moved from Florida and another one who moved from Louisiana. There’s also the truth elixir for a first date. Like the time I went on a date with Rain and decided to serenade her with jokes I had written from my wannabe comedian days. The non-laughter forced chuckle said more than any words could. People say to be confident on a first date but that played out more like “This is Johnny Knoxville! Welcome to Jackass!” except this stunt was more dangerous than anything Steve-O ever did. The elixir doesn’t wear off after the date, however. I’ve gotten the “no romantic chemistry” spiel after a date more than a few times. Speaking of romance, it wouldn’t be a first date without a drunk makeout sesh while trying to hold my dinner down. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the amazing disappearing act of mutual ghosting. That one is my favorite trick. All kidding aside it’s not all hex and voodoo. If anything, going on all those dates makes me realize it’s not about any of that romantic stuff anyway. It’s about attempting to form a human-to-human connection and getting to do some pretty fun stuff in the process. Chelsea Market, drunk karaoke, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and a Canadian-themed bar are just a few of the things I got to experience for the first time with another person no less. If that’s not enough I even get to do my impression of Morpheus if he were a dating guru: “red flag, green flag”. At the end of the day, I don’t need to dream of Jeannie because I get to experience it on every first date I go on.
